One Year On: Join the conversation
What happens after a report is published? How do the conversations, relationships and commitments it inspires begin to make a difference?
On Thursday 26 November, Sheffield Poverty Truth Commission is bringing people together to explore these questions at our free “One Year On” event at Terry Wright Community Centre in Newfield Green.
Taking place from 6.30pm to 8pm, the evening offers a chance to hear what has happened since the Commission’s report was completed a year ago, reflect on the journey so far and look towards what comes next.
At the heart of Poverty Truth is a simple belief: people who experience poverty must be part of shaping the decisions that affect their lives. Understanding poverty means listening carefully to the people who live with its consequences, recognising their knowledge and creating space for honest conversations with those who can help bring about change.
Our report was an important milestone in that work. But publishing a report is only one step. The continuing challenge is to turn listening into action, build on the relationships formed and keep lived experience at the centre of efforts to tackle poverty in Sheffield.
This event is an opportunity to reconnect with that purpose. Whether you have followed the Commission from the beginning or are discovering our work for the first time, we would love you to join us.
You might be a local resident, someone with personal experience of poverty, a community volunteer, or a colleague working in public services, business or the voluntary sector. Whatever your connection, your interest and perspective matter.
We want this anniversary to be a moment for both reflection and renewed commitment: a chance to recognise progress, remain honest about the challenges and consider how we can continue working together towards a fairer city.
Poverty affects people’s health, relationships, opportunities and sense of belonging. Responding to it requires more than any single organisation can offer. It takes people willing to listen, learn from one another and keep asking what needs to change.
Please join us as we mark one year since the report and continue the conversation about Sheffield’s future.
